What is the National BIM Professionals Alliance NABPA?

About the National BIM Professionals Alliance (NABPA)

The National BIM Professionals Alliance (NABPA) is a professional organization dedicated to elevating Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) standards across the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.

Different Uses of Industry Tools

While nearly every contractor uses tools such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Inventor, and Bluebeam, each applies them differently.

Every contractor has unique workflows, each general contractor (GC) coordinates in their own way, and deliverables vary widely from project to project.

This lack of standardization leads to:

  • Inefficient coordination — Each general contractor (GC) runs BIM differently, forcing subcontractors to constantly retool from project to project.
  • Confusion at sign-off — Inconsistent deliverables slow approvals and delay project closeout.
  • Missed opportunities — Many contractors don’t realize BIM can connect directly to prefab/manufacturing workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

No prior BIM experience is required to join any NABPA certification program. Each course is structured to guide participants through real-world workflows, regardless of their starting point.
While many professionals begin with foundational certifications like LBIM-C (Licensed BIM Coordinator) or LBIM-M (Licensed BIM Manager), NABPA instructors provide step-by-step mentorship to ensure every participant develops the technical and coordination skills needed to succeed — even without prior BIM experience.

Each module includes a structured assessment. Participants must pass all module exams with a minimum score of 80% to earn their certification. The exams are designed to validate both technical and applied project knowledge.

You’ll need access to Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and Bluebeam (licenses managed through NABPA partners). NABPA does not provide computers or hardware, so participants must ensure their PC meets minimum system requirements.

Graduates gain access to NABPA’s Professional Network, where certified members can connect with recruiters, join industry forums, and be considered for remote BIM/VDC placement opportunities across North America.
